Ottawa Rapid FC, Winger Choo Hyo-joo Agree to New Contract Through 2026

OTTAWA (Nov. 28, 2025) – Ottawa Rapid FC winger Choo Hyo-joo, who helped lead the team to second place in the regular season standings and a playoff berth in the Northern Super League's inaugural season, has agreed to terms on a new contract. The club announced on Thursday that Choo signed an extension, keeping her in Ottawa through the 2026 season.

"We are absolutely thrilled to extend Choo Hyo-joo's contract through 2026," said Rapid FC Technical Director Kristina Kiss. "She's one of our most exciting players and one of our strongest athletes who moves really well on the pitch. She's a playmaker who’s great on the ball,  can possess and keep it. Plus, she has incredible character on and off the field with a great, playful sense of humour. She's just super fun to have around."

A dynamic winger for Ottawa Rapid FC, Choo was signed from Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels ahead of the Northern Super League's inaugural 2025 season. The South Korean international started in Ottawa's historic first match, a 2-1 victory over AFC Toronto, and went on to record one goal and one assist across 2,065 minutes played this season, averaging 76 minutes per match.

Choo brings both technical skill and international experience to Ottawa Rapid FC as the club continues to build its foundation in the Northern Super League.

Before joining Rapid FC, the 25-year-old from South Korea spent three seasons with Suwon FC in the WK League, making 65 appearances and recording 14 goals and eight assists. She then transferred to Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels for one season before making the move to Canada.

"I'm really excited to stay and keep growing with the team," said Choo. "Ottawa feels like home now, and playing on this team is so impressive and fun. It's great to hear K-pop songs during warm-up. They help me come out and play even better. I feel so grateful to be here.""

Choo has been a consistent presence for the South Korea national team since making her senior debut on Dec. 15, 2019, in a 3-0 victory against Chinese Taipei at the EAFF E-1 Football Championship. She was recently called up for the current international window and was included in South Korea's squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. She previously represented her country at the youth level, scoring four goals in 10 appearances for the under-20 team between 2018 and 2019.
