Ottawa native Keera Melenhorst scores a brace and adds an assist on her 23rd birthday, three other players contribute goals in home opener win

Ottawa, ON (May 2, 2026) – Ottawa Rapid FC earned their first win of the season in style on Saturday afternoon, defeating Calgary Wild FC 5-2 in their home opener at TD Place Stadium. Playing on her 23rd birthday, Ottawa native Keera Melenhorst scored two goals and tallied an assist in just her second start with Rapid FC. Earning three points, Ottawa (1-0-1) now sits third in the Northern Super League table.

Melanie Forbes put Ottawa on the board quickly, scoring just 35 seconds into the game. The 26-year-old buried a rebound after an initial shot from Delaney Baie Pridham was saved, earning her first of the year. Calgary tied things up with a penalty kick goal in the 12th minute, then took the lead less than two minutes later off the foot of Taegan Stewart.

Ottawa responded with three goals in eight minutes to take a two-goal lead. First, Melenhorst buried her first-ever NSL goal with a strike from the top of the box in the 26th minute. Four minutes later, Florence Belzile capitalized off a ball lobbed through by Pridham to put Ottawa ahead, earning her first of the year. Then, in the 34th minute, Melenhorst took advantage of a defensive misplay from Calgary’s goalkeeper, intercepting a pass and completing her brace.

Choo Hyojoo put an exclamation mark on Ottawa’s win in the second half, converting on a through ball from Melenhorst. The Korean defender now has two goals in her NSL career, while Melenhorst earned her first NSL assist on the play.

“It’s amazing,” said Keera Melenhorst. “We worked so hard all preseason to get this result here at home, to do it at home in front of our fans. It’s an amazing feeling, and gives us great momentum moving forward.”

Head coach Katrine Pedersen: “It feels amazing being back here at TD Place, playing in front of our fans and getting that connection with Ottawa. I’m very proud of the girls, the way we responded after last week. We brought a lot of energy and an early goal, it was a very good game.”

Ottawa continues its four-game homestand against Vancouver Rise FC on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. ET.

KEERA MELENHORST: Playing on her 23rd birthday, Melenhorst scored two goals on two shots, tallied an assist, and got a yellow card. The Ottawa native signed with Rapid FC earlier this year, and has started both games for her hometown club so far this season.

MELANIE FORBES: Forbes scored her first goal of the year on Saturday. Last season, the 26-year-old finished with three goals and a team-leading five assists in 24 games played.

FIVE ON THE BOARD: With five goals scored, Rapid FC tied their franchise record for goals in a game. Ottawa scored five goals against Halifax Tides FC in a 5-0 win on August 28, 2025 at TD Place Stadium.

SERIES: Rapid FC now hold a 4-1-1 record against Wild FC all-time. This marks Ottawa’s third time hosting Calgary and second win against them at home.

Victoire sans équivoque de 5-2 pour le CF Rapide à son match d’ouverture locale contre le Wild FC de Calgary

La milieu de terrain originaire d’Ottawa Keera Melenhorst réalise un doublé et ajoute une passe décisive le jour de son 23e anniversaire de naissance, trois autres joueuses trouvent aussi le fond du filet pour lancer la saison à domicile.

Ottawa (Ontario) 2 mai 2026 – Le CF Rapide d’Ottawa a décroché sa première victoire de la saison avec panache, samedi, en s’imposant 5-2 contre le Wild FC de Calgary à l’occasion de son match d’ouverture locale au Stade de la Place TD. Enfilant l’uniforme le jour de son 23e anniversaire de naissance, la milieu de terrain originaire d’Ottawa Keera Melenhorst a marqué deux buts et inscrit une passe décisive à son deuxième départ en carrière avec le CF Rapide. En vertu des trois points récoltés pour cette victoire, Ottawa (1-0-1) occupe maintenant la troisième place au classement de la Super Ligue du Nord.

Melanie Forbes n’a pas tardé à inscrire Ottawa au pointage, trouvant le fond du filet après seulement 35 secondes de jeu. L’attaquante de 26 ans a repris le retour d’un tir initialement décoché par Delaney Baie Pridham pour ainsi inscrire son premier but de la saison. Calgary a créé l’égalité à l’aide d’un but sur penalty à la 12e minute de jeu, puis a pris les devants moins de deux minutes plus tard grâce au but de Taegan Stewart.

Ottawa a répliqué avec trois filets sans riposte en l’espace de huit minutes de jeu pour ainsi prendre l’avance par un écart de deux buts. Melenhorst y est tout d’abord allée de son premier but à vie dans la SLN au moyen d’un tir à l’entrée de la zone de réparation à la 26 e  minute. Quatre minutes plus tard, Florence Belzile a tiré profit d’un ballon aérien que lui a dirigé Pridham pour donner les devants à Ottawa, enregistrant ainsi son premier filet de la saison. Puis, à la 34 e minute, Melenhorst a su saisir l’occasion à la suite d’une erreur commise par la gardienne de but de Calgary, interceptant une tentative de passe et complétant son doublé.

Choo Hyojoo a ajouté la cerise sur le gâteau en deuxième mi-temps en marquant à la suite d’une passe en profondeur de Melenhorst. La défenseure coréenne a maintenant deux buts en carrière dans la SLN, tandis que Melenhorst a inscrit sa première passe décisive à vie sur le jeu.

« C’est formidable, a déclaré Keera Melenhorst. Nous avons travaillé tellement fort tout au long du camp d’entraînement pour obtenir ce résultat à la maison, pour arriver à une telle performance devant nos partisans. C’est une sensation formidable et ça nous donne un bon élan en vue de la suite ».

L’entraîneure-chef Katrine Pedersen a ajouté : « C’était formidable d’être de retour ici à la Place TD, de pouvoir jouer devant nos partisans et de renouer avec Ottawa. Je suis très fière des filles, de la façon dont elles ont réagi après le match de la semaine dernière. Nous avons affiché beaucoup d’énergie et réussi à marquer rapidement, ç’a été un très bon match ».

La séquence de quatre rencontres à domicile d’Ottawa se poursuivra ce mercredi 6 mai à 19 h (HE) alors que le Rise FC de Vancouver sera l’équipe visiteuse.

KEERA MELENHORST : Le jour de son 23 e  anniversaire de naissance, Melenhorst a marqué deux buts sur deux tirs, en plus de récolter une passe décisive et d’écoper d’un carton jaune. La milieu de terrain originaire d’Ottawa a signé un contrat avec le CF Rapide plus tôt cette année et a amorcé chacun de deux matchs de l’équipe jusqu’ici cette saison.

MELANIE FORBES : Forbes a inscrit son premier but de la saison, samedi. L’année dernière, l’attaquante de 26 ans avait complété la campagne avec une fiche de trois buts en plus d’amasser cinq passes décisives, un sommet dans l’équipe, en 24 matchs disputés.

CINQ AU TABLEAU : Les cinq buts marqués samedi égalent le record de concession du CF Rapide pour le plus grand nombre de filets inscrits au cours d’un match. Ottawa avait aussi enfilé cinq buts contre les Tides FC de Halifax dans un gain de 5-0, le 28 août 2025 au Stade de la Place TD.

FACE À FACE : Le CF Rapide affiche maintenant un bilan à vie de 4-1-1 contre le Wild FC. C’était la troisième fois qu’Ottawa recevait Calgary et il s’agissait d’une deuxième victoire à domicile contre la formation albertaine.
