Choo Hyojoo scores her third goal of the season, D.B. Pridham tallies third assist as Ottawa wraps four-game homestand

Ottawa, ON (May 23, 2026) – Choo Hyojoo had Rapid FC’s lone goal in a tight 2-1 loss to Montreal Roses FC on Saturday afternoon at TD Place Stadium. The game marked the end of a four-game homestand that saw three wins and a loss. Rapid FC (3-0-2) remain in second place in the Northern Super League table with nine points.

Montreal opened the scoring with two goals in the first half, but Ottawa responded with a strong press in the second half to get on the board. Choo Hyojoo buried her third of the year to put Ottawa within one, volleying home a ball lobbed in from D.B. Pridham.

Shortly after, Ottawa goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais kept Ottawa within striking distance with two big saves, first denying a breakaway chance from Montreal’s Elyse Bennett, then blocking a net-front volley from Noémi Paquin. Dagenais made four saves in the loss, and has a league-leading 20 this season.

“We are never happy when we lose, we’re not satisfied with that,” said head coach Katrine Pedersen. “There are a lot of things we are happy with from the game. I think Montreal started out well and we were not really on our toes, but we got back into it in the middle of the first half. In the second half we made changes to push more, and we did.”

Defender Jyllissa Harris, on bouncing back: “The last time we lost, we went on a three-game winning streak (after). We plan to do the same thing again, except win more. Like we always talk about, if you lose a game and don’t learn anything from it, and don’t take positives and negatives from it, then it was a waste. We want to win every game, but there was plenty to learn from this game. Now it’s just about fine-tuning.”

Next weekend, Ottawa heads east to face Halifax Tides FC at Wanderers Ground on Friday, May 29 at 5 p.m. ET.

CHOO HYOJOO: The 25-year-old Korean defender now sits third in the league with three goals scored this season.

D.B. PRIDHAM: Pridham sits tied with Ottawa’s Keera Melenhorst and Montreal’s Lisa Pechersky for the league lead in assists, each with three. The 2025 NSL Golden Boot Award winner also has two goals this season.

MELISSA DAGENAIS: Ottawa’s goalkeeper made four saves to move into sole possession of the league lead in saves, with 20 so far this season. Dagenais also boasts two clean sheets in five starts.

SERIES: Rapid FC now hold a 1-2-3 record against Roses FC all-time.
