Rapid FC Battle to the End in Season-Opening 3-1 Loss to Halifax Tides FC

Nicola Golen buries Ottawa’s first goal of the year, Jyllissa Harris earns her first assist of 2026 in the loss

Halifax, NS (April 25, 2026) – Ottawa Rapid FC opened their sophomore season on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Halifax Tides FC at Wanderers Grounds. 22-year-old Nicola Golen scored Ottawa’s sole marker off the bench, matching her goal tally from 2025 through just one match.

Ottawa goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais came up with a big save in the 38th minute to keep the game level. Unfortunately, Halifax was able to open the scoring on the ensuing corner kick. In the 79th minute, Tides FC doubled their lead off the foot of Jordyn Rhodes.

Minutes later, Ottawa’s Nicola Golen put a clean finish on a ball fed from distance by defender Jyllissa Harris to cut Halifax’s lead in half. The goal marks the second career NSL goal for Golen and second assist for Harris.

Rapid FC continued to press late in the game, but Halifax put the game away in the 85th minute with their third of the match.

“It was good to come on, good to get one back,” said Nicola Golen. “It’s obviously not the result we wanted. So now we go home, shift the focus to the next game. It’s a long season, and I’m excited to see what this team can do.”

Head coach Katrine Pedersen, on next week’s home opener: “It’s a new game, it’s one step at a time. We have a long journey ahead of us. We built a lot last year, and we’re building upon that and bringing that to life. Re-grouping, analyzing the game when we get home, and then we’re ready to approach it. We’re very much looking forward to getting home to Ottawa and playing at TD Place in front of our fans.”

Next weekend, Rapid FC return to Ottawa for a four-game homestand, beginning with their home opener against Calgary Wild FC on Saturday, May 2 at 5 p.m. ET.

NICOLA GOLEN: Coming off the bench, 22-year-old Nicola Golen scored her first goal of the season. In 2025, the Toronto native scored one goal and tallied three assists in 700 minutes played.

JYLLISSA HARRIS: The 26-year-old assisted Ottawa’s sole marker, earning her second career NSL assist.

SADIE WAITE: The 21-year-old Ontario native made her NSL debut when she subbed on in the 67th minute.

SERIES: Rapid FC now hold a 3-1-2 record against Tides FC all-time. This marks Ottawa’s fourth visit to Halifax all-time and second loss in Nova Scotia’s capital.

Halifax, Nouvelle-Écosse (25 avril 2026) – Le CF Rapide d’Ottawa a lancé sa deuxième saison d’existence sur une
défaite de 3-1 aux mains des Tides FC de Halifax samedi après-midi au complexe sportif Wanderers Grounds. La
joueuse de 22 ans Nicola Golen a enfilé le seul but d’Ottawa en s’amenant du banc, égalant ainsi son total de buts
de l’année 2025 après un seul match.

La gardienne de but du CF Rapide Melissa Dagenais a réalisé un arrêt important à la 38 e  minute de jeu pour garder
le match à égalité. Malheureusement, Halifax a réussi à ouvrir la marque sur le coup de pied de coin qui a suivi. Puis,
à la 79 e  minute, les Tides ont doublé leur avance sur un tir de Jordyn Rhodes.

Quelques minutes plus tard, Golen a fait preuve d’une belle finition sur un ballon que lui a servi la défenseure Jyllissa
Harris de loin pour ainsi réduire le déficit de Halifax. Il s’agissait d’un deuxième but en carrière dans la SLN pour
Golen et d’une deuxième passe décisive pour Harris.

Le CF Rapide a continué de se lancer à l’attaque en fin de rencontre, mais Halifax a ajouté un filet d’assurance à la
85 e  minute en inscrivant son troisième but de l’affrontement.

« C’est une bonne chose d’avoir pu aller sur le terrain et de réduire l’écart, a déclaré Nicola Golen. Ce n’est
évidemment pas le résultat que nous souhaitions. Maintenant nous allons retourner à la maison et commencer à
penser au prochain match. C’est une longue saison et je suis emballée à l’idée de voir ce que cette équipe est
capable de faire ».

L’entraîneure-chef Katrine Pedersen, à propos du match d’ouverture locale de la semaine prochaine : « Ce sera
un nouveau match, il faut y aller une étape à la fois. Nous avons un long parcours qui nous attend. Nous avons mis
en place beaucoup de choses l’an dernier et nous allons bâtir là-dessus pour donner vie à tout ça. Nous allons nous
regrouper, analyser le match une fois de retour à la maison, et ensuite nous serons prêtes à entreprendre la
prochaine rencontre. Nous avons très hâte de revenir chez nous à Ottawa et de jouer au Stade de la Place
TD devant nos partisans ».

Le weekend prochain, le CF Rapide sera de retour à Ottawa en prévision d’une série de quatre matchs à domicile,
qui commencera avec son match d’ouverture locale du samedi 2 mai à 17 h (HE) contre le Wild FC de Calgary.

NICOLA GOLEN : En s’amenant du banc à titre de substitut, la joueuse de 22 ans Nicola Golen a marqué son
premier but de la saison. En 2025, celle qui est née à Toronto a inscrit un but et trois passes décisives en 700
minutes de jeu.
JYLLISSA HARRIS : La joueuse de 26 ans a inscrit la passe décisive sur le seul but d’Ottawa, enregistrant sa
deuxième passe décisive en carrière dans la SLN.
SADIE WAITE : L’Ontarienne de 21 ans a fait ses débuts dans la SLN quand elle s’est amenée dans le match à titre
de substitut à la 67 e  minute.
