Sonia Okobi-Oke scored her first two NSL goals in her first start of the season as Ottawa snapped a five-game losing streak
Ottawa, ON (September 20, 2026) – Sonia Okobi-Oke had a night to remember in the nation’s capital on Sunday, scoring her first NSL brace to help Rapid FC to a 3-1 win over Calgary Wild FC at TD Place Stadium. Ottawa’s other goal came courtesy of Johanne Fridlund, while Mollie Eriksson made her third start of the season in net. Earning three crucial points, Rapid FC (11-3-7) climb back into second place in the Northern Super League table with 36 points. The club sits just three points behind the league-leading Montreal Roses FC with four games remaining.
Mounting a dangerous press to open the match, Ottawa found the opening goal in the fourth minute. Florence Belzile crossed the ball into the box, where Johanne Fridlund helped it along and Sonia Okobi-Oke finished it for her first career NSL goal. Fridlund earned her fourth assist of the season on the goal. Later in the half, Belzile battled a ball past two Calgary defenders up the left flank and crossed it in once again to a charging Fridlund who buried it to double Ottawa’s lead. The goal marked Fridlund’s fourth of the year and Belzile’s fourth assist.
In the 77th minute, Calgary got on the board off the foot of Frédérique St-Jean. Following the goal, D.B. Pridham came off the bench for her first appearance since August 15. Ottawa responded in the ensuing minute, with Okobi-Oke taking a ball from Keera Melenhorst and striking it hard from outside the box, beating Calgary’s goalkeeper and completing her first NSL brace. Melenhorst earned her fifth assist of the year on the goal.
“I feel very good,” said head coach Katrine Pedersen. “I’m very satisfied with the performance. We played a brilliant, brilliant first half. We were all over them. We had runs in behind, we had players in the box. And then we played a good second half. We were more under pressure, but we didn’t break. We finished the job.”
Sonia Okobi-Oke, on scoring her first NSL goal: “The first goal, I mean it just happened. This is something I’ve been looking forward to and it happened. And then the celebration, I love dancing.”
Next weekend, Rapid FC visit AFC Toronto at York Lions Stadium for the final meeting of the season between the two Ontario clubs. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at 2 p.m. ET.
SONIA OKOBI-OKE: Making her first start of the season, Nigerian forward Sonia Okobi-Oke scored her first career NSL goal in the fourth minute, then added a second late in the game to complete the brace.
JOHANNE FRIDLUND: Johanne Fridlund scored a goal and added an assist on Sunday. The Norwegian forward has four goals and four assists on the year.
D.B. PRIDHAM: D.B. Pridham came off the bench in the 77th minute for her first appearance since August 15.
KEERA MELENHORST: Keera Melenhorst earned her fifth assist of the season on Sunday, tying D.B. Pridham’s league-leading tally. Melenhorst totals 11 goal contributions this season.
FLORENCE BELZILE: Florence Belzile earned her fourth assist of the season and seventh overall goal contribution on Sunday.

Ottawa (Ontario) 20 septembre 2026 – Sonia Okobi-Oke a connu une soirée des plus mémorables dans la capitale nationale, dimanche, alors qu’elle a marqué ses deux premiers buts dans la SLN pour aider le CF Rapide à l’emporter 3-1 contre le Wild FC de Calgary au Stade de la Place TD. L’autre filet d’Ottawa a été l'œuvre de Johanne Fridlund, tandis que Mollie Eriksson a obtenu son troisième départ de la saison devant le filet. Grâce à ces trois points cruciaux récoltés au classement, le CF Rapide (11-3-7) s’est hissé au deuxième rang du classement de la Super Ligue du Nord avec 36 points. Le club n’a plus que trois points de retard sur les Roses de Montréal FC, qui sont premières, avec quatre matchs à disputer.
Appliquant une redoutable pression dès le départ, Ottawa a ouvert la marque dès la quatrième minute de jeu. Florence Belzile a centré le ballon dans la surface de réparation, où Johanne Fridlund l’a relancé, ce qui a permis à Sonia Okobi-Oke de compléter la séquence et d’inscrire son premier but en carrière dans la SLN. Fridlund a récolté sa quatrième passe décisive de la saison sur le jeu. Plus tard en première demie, Belzile a bataillé pour le ballon et battu deux joueuses en défensive de Calgary sur le flanc gauche pour ensuite le centrer encore une fois vers une Fridlund en pleine course et celle-ci n’a pas raté sa chance de doubler l’avance d’Ottawa. Fridlund en était alors à son quatrième filet de l’année tandis que Belzile a amassé sa quatrième passe décisive.
À la 77e minute, Calgary s’est inscrit au pointage grâce à Frédérique St-Jean. Après ce but, D.B. Pridham s’est amenée du banc pour ainsi participer à son premier match depuis le 15 août. Ottawa en a tiré profit dans la minute de jeu qui a suivi, quand Okobi-Oke a accepté un ballon que lui a servi Keera Melenhorst et y est allée d’un solide tir de l’extérieur de la zone de réparation qui a battu la gardienne de but de Calgary et lui a permis de réaliser un premier doublé dans la SLN. Melenhorst a obtenu sa cinquième passe décisive de la campagne sur ce filet.
« C’est une très bonne sensation, a déclaré l’entraîneure-chef Katrine Pedersen. Je suis très satisfaite de notre performance. Nous avons disputé une magnifique première demie. Nous étions partout. Nous avons réalisé des courses derrière leur ligne, nous avons placé des joueuses dans la zone de réparation. Ensuite, nous avons disputé une bonne deuxième demie. Nous étions davantage sous pression, mais nous n’avons pas cédé. Nous avons fini le boulot ».
Sonia Okobi-Oke, sur son premier but dans la SLN : « Le premier but, c’est arrivé sans que je ne le réalise trop. C’est un moment que j’avais hâte de vivre et ça s’est réalisé. Ensuite, la célébration, j’adore danser ».
Le weekend prochain, le CF Rapide rendra visite à l’AFC Toronto au York Lions Stadium en vue du dernier affrontement de la saison entre les deux clubs ontariens. Le match aura lieu le samedi 26 septembre à compter de 14 h (HE).
SONIA OKOBI-OKE : À son premier départ de la saison, l’attaquante nigériane Sonia Okobi-Oke a marqué son premier but dans la SLN à la quatrième minute de jeu, puis elle a ajouté un deuxième filet en dernière portion de rencontre pour ainsi compléter son doublé.
